National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is one of the most sought after medical entrance examination in the country for students who have either passed their class XII examinations or are appearing in the same. The exam is conducted every year in the month of May and the results are declared in July. NEET Cut off score will be released after the exam.
Each year a qualifying Cutoff score is set up by the exam conducting body. The candidates who score above the qualifying Cutoff score are eligible to seek admission in the medical and dental colleges of the country. It is to be noted that the Cutoff is different for different categories. If the statistics for the year 2018 are to be seen, a general candidate required a minimum of 119 marks to clear the Cutoff, with the other categories requiring relatively lesser marks.
This qualifying Cutoff made up for the 50th percentile for the general category candidates. Based on a candidate’s score, he/she is allotted a rank which is used as the parameter for attaining admission in top medical and dental colleges in the country

FACTORS AFFECTING CUTOFF SCORE
DIFFICULTY LEVEL OF THE EXAM
The Cutoff score largely depends on the difficulty level of the exam. If the exam was of the easy-moderate level, the qualifying Cutoff score is higher. Likewise, if the exam had a high difficulty level, the Cutoff score is generally expected to be less.
NUMBER OF ASPIRANTS
The number of candidates who appear for NEET 2019 will also impact the Cutoff score. Higher the number of candidates, higher will be the Cutoff score required to secure admissions in the medical colleges and vice versa.
THE NUMBER OF SEATS AVAILABLE IN THE COLLEGES
The Cutoff largely depends on the number of seats available in the colleges. If the number of available seats is higher, the Cutoff is expected to be low. However, if the number of seats is skewed, the Cutoff is bound to increase.
Based upon the above-mentioned factors, the cut-offs are decided by NTA (National testing Agency) and ranks are allotted to the students. On the basis of ranks obtained, colleges are allotted and the medical course begins.
